About this project

We're closing the gap between «taking a photo» and «having a photo».

01 · THE PROBLEM

2,000 photos. 10 prints a year.

The average smartphone holds thousands of photos. Almost none of them ever leave the screen. Polaroid is back, film is back, Instax outsells DSLRs — people want physical photos again. But no one wants another gadget to carry. Existing portable printers (HP Sprocket, Canon, Polaroid Hi-Print) all live at home, forgotten in a drawer.

02 · THE IDEA

What if your phone case was the printer?

Snap & Print is a wireless ZINK photo printer that magnetically attaches to a special MagSafe iPhone case. When the printer touches the case, it auto-pairs with your phone via NFC and Bluetooth. No buttons, no cables, no setup.

Pick a photo. Tap print. 30 seconds later, hand someone a real 2×3" instant photo with optional sticker backing.

03 · WHY THIS WORKS

It lives with the phone, not next to it.

The barrier between «I want a print» and «I have a print» is the trip home to grab the printer. We removed that. 108 × 68 × 15 mm. ~105 g. About the size of a Polaroid frame. The printer lives on the back of your case — disappears until you need it.

And when you don't need it — the phone case is just a phone case. Standard thickness. Standard feel. Standard pocket-friendly.

Who's behind this

Three of us. One product. Building in public.

We're not a venture-backed company with a 30-person team. We're a small group with one focused idea — and we're sharing every prototype, mistake, and factory visit along the way.

THE VISIONARY
Founder
Couldn't stop thinking about the unprinted photos. Started this project after realising no one had built it.
THE ENGINEER
Hardware lead
Got the printer down to 15mm. Speaks fluent magnet, motor, and millimetre. Owns the BOM.
THE DESIGNER
Design lead
Turned a magnet ring into a frame. Designs the printer, the case, the app, and everything you see.
FAQ

Most asked.

Will this work with my iPhone?
Yes if you have an iPhone 15, 16, or 17 — any variant, including Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. The case ships pre-fitted to your specific model; you'll pick yours at checkout. iPhone 14 and earlier don't work because Apple changed the MagSafe ring position starting with iPhone 15. Samsung Galaxy S25/S26 and Pixel 9/10 support comes later via a magnetic adapter case (not at initial launch).
Does the magnet damage credit cards, hotel keys, or my AirTag?
No. Our magnet ring matches Apple's official MagSafe spec — the same magnets that have been on iPhones since 2020 with no documented cases of damaging cards or keys at this strength. Modern bank cards and hotel keys use chips and RFID, not magnetic strips. Same common-sense rule applies as with any MagSafe accessory: don't sandwich the device directly against your wallet for hours.
Does it work with my existing MagSafe wallet, stand, or charger?
Yes — the case itself is fully MagSafe-compatible. Your MagSafe wallet snaps on, your MagSafe charger works through it (full 15 W wireless), your car mount holds. When the printer is attached, those accessories obviously can't be — the printer occupies the magnetic spot. The printer pops off in one motion when you want to use other gear.
Does printing drain my phone's battery?
Barely. The printer has its own 750 mAh battery and runs independently. Your phone only sends the photo file over Bluetooth — a few seconds of low-power radio. A typical printing session uses less iPhone battery than a 30-second TikTok scroll. The printer itself does 8–10 prints per charge; recharging takes about 60 minutes on a Qi pad or 25 minutes via USB-C.
Where do I buy ZINK paper once the pack in the box runs out?
Through our website, Amazon, and select retail partners after launch. Pricing: about $9 per 10-sheet pack (standard glossy) or $11 per pack with peel-and-stick backing. Bundle pricing and a monthly subscription save more. Our paper is also fully compatible with HP Sprocket and Polaroid Hi-Print papers — if you ever can't find ours, those work as backup.
Will the photos fade over time?
ZINK prints are rated for 50+ years of indoor display under normal conditions. Direct sunlight on a window for months will reduce that; same with a car dashboard in summer. Photos are water-resistant, fingerprint-resistant, and don't smudge. Compared to Polaroid film, ZINK is significantly more fade-resistant. We recommend out of direct sun if you want them to last decades.
How loud is it printing? Can I use it at a quiet event?
About 45 decibels at 1 meter — quieter than a normal conversation, around the same level as a refrigerator hum. You can print in a meeting room, restaurant, or family dinner without people noticing. The only sound is a soft motor whirr as the paper feeds through — similar to a Polaroid camera ejecting film.
Can I print photos from Instagram, WhatsApp, or my camera roll?
Anything in your camera roll, yes — the app pulls directly from your iPhone Photos. For Instagram or WhatsApp images, save them to your camera roll first (long-press the image → "Save image"), then open the Snap & Print app and pick from there. After launch, we'll add direct sharing extensions so you can print from inside Instagram and WhatsApp without saving first.
What if I drop my phone with the printer attached?
The MagSafe case alone is drop-tested to 1.5 m onto hardwood. The printer adds a polycarbonate-and-TPE bumper that absorbs impact rather than transferring it to the phone. If the printer takes a direct hit, the magnets may release and pop the printer off — that's by design, it saves both pieces from worse damage. Our 12-month warranty covers manufacturing defects but not drops; AppleCare still protects your phone normally.
Will joining the waitlist commit me to anything?
No. You're reserving a $20 discount and a place in line. We'll send one email when we go live on Kickstarter — that's the moment you decide whether to actually back. No pressure, no recurring messages, unsubscribe anytime.
When will it ship?
Honest answer: hardware on Kickstarter ships late. Industry average is 6–12 months past the original promise. We're targeting December 2026 for Founders Tier and Early Bird backers, with about 2 months of buffer built in. We'll send a real production update every two weeks from manufacturing start onward — no silence.
Risks & challenges

The honest part.

What could go wrong — and how we're managing it.

Manufacturing delays. 84% of top-funded hardware Kickstarter projects ship later than they promise. We're treating «summer 2027» as a realistic estimate, not an aggressive one, and building 2 months of buffer into our schedule.

Certification timing. MFi, FCC, and CE certifications can take 1–6 months. We're starting the MFi application during prototyping, not after — to avoid the post-funding scramble.

ZINK paper supply. ZINK technology is licensed by Polaroid. We're negotiating with an OEM partner before Kickstarter launch — paper supply will be locked in before we ship, not after.

Apple ecosystem changes. If MagSafe changes significantly in future iPhone models, we'll design the printer's attachment to work with universal magnetic mounts (not just MagSafe) — already in our v1.1 plans.

We're a small team and won't promise what we can't deliver. Honest communication, every week, in your inbox.
